Introduction

My name is Harry S Truman, and I was born in Missouri on May 8, 1884. I am the son of John Anderson and Martha Ellen Truman. My wife is Elizabeth Virginia Wallace Truman and Mary Margaret is my only child. I attended the University of Missouri and the Kansas City School of Law. After college, I worked as a salesman and farmer. I was always interested in politics, and after serving as a judge in Missouri, I ran for and won a seat in the United States Sentate in 1935. I continued to work as a Democratic Senator until 1945. Later, I was elected Vice President to Franklin D. Roosevelt. Only 82 days after assuming Vice Presidency, Roosevelt died. On April 12, 1945, I was sworn in as the 33rd President of The United States. I was elected for a second term in 1948 and served alongside Alben Barkley, my Vice President. Throughout my years in office, the decisions I made were crucial for the United States. For example, I approved that two atomic bombs be dropped on Japan during World War II. I was also the first candidate for Presidency to receive over 24 million popular votes. When I left office in 1953, I was admired and liked by the American people.
